Kenya Extends Analogue TV Switch-Off Deadline to September 2025, Cites Need for More Preparation Time

Nairobi, Kenya – The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has announced an extension of the deadline for the complete switch-off of analogue television signals in the country to September 2025. This decision provides additional time for both broadcasters and viewers to fully transition to digital television platforms.

Facilitating Digital Migration

CA Chief Executive Officer, Ezra Chiloba, stated that this extension was granted in response to requests from various stakeholders within the broadcasting industry who indicated a need for more preparation time to ensure a smooth and comprehensive migration process. To support this transition, the Authority has committed to facilitating the distribution of digital set-top boxes, particularly to low-income households, to enable access to digital broadcasts. Furthermore, extensive public awareness campaigns will be launched to educate citizens about the digital migration process and its benefits. Mr. Chiloba urged the remaining households that have not yet migrated to digital television to do so promptly to avoid losing access to free-to-air TV services when the final, now extended, switch-off date arrives.
