Nairobi, Kenya – Kenya and China have solidified their commitment to a future powered by science and technology, announcing on June 19 a new and expanded partnership that will see the two nations collaborate on a wide range of cutting-edge initiatives. The announcement was made by Kenya's Education Cabinet Secretary, Julius Ogamba, during a high-profile science and technology conference in Chengdu, China. The renewed partnership will build on an existing bilateral agreement, launching a series of joint research programs, innovation hubs, and capacity-building projects designed to position technology and innovation as the primary engines of Kenya's economic growth.
During his visit to Chengdu, CS Ogamba held a productive meeting with China’s Minister of Science and Technology, Yin Hejun, which resulted in the signing of a Letter of Intent that will pave the way for a new wave of collaborative projects. The focus of the new partnership will be on delivering tangible results, including shared research in key sectors, the transfer of cutting-edge technologies, and the development of a highly skilled workforce. CS Ogamba emphasized that this ambitious agenda is perfectly aligned with Kenya’s long-term national development goals, including the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda and Vision 2030. The partnership will also seek to strengthen the ties between universities, research institutions, and industry partners in both countries, a move that is expected to accelerate Kenya's transformation into a regional technology and innovation powerhouse.
