Kenya Achieves Record 98% Mobile Internet Penetration Among Active Subscribers, CA Survey Reveals
A recent survey by the Communications Authority of Kenya indicates that mobile internet penetration in the country has reached a record high of 98% among active subscribers, driven by affordable data and smartphone adoption, though efforts continue to connect remaining remote areas.

Nairobi, Kenya – A new survey conducted by the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has revealed that Kenya’s mobile internet penetration has reached an unprecedented 98% among active subscribers, marking a significant milestone in the nation's digital transformation journey. This remarkable growth is largely attributed to the increased availability of affordable data plans offered by various mobile network operators and the widespread adoption of smartphones across different demographics.
Bridging the Digital Divide
Government-led and private sector rural connectivity initiatives have also played a crucial role in boosting internet usage outside major urban centers, bringing more Kenyans online. CA Chief Executive Officer, Ezra Chiloba, commented that improving digital access for all citizens remains a key national priority. Despite these impressive gains in overall penetration, Mr. Chiloba acknowledged that a digital divide still persists in some remote and underserved regions of the country. He emphasized that further targeted investment in infrastructure and digital literacy programs is necessary to achieve the goal of 100% nationwide coverage and ensure equitable access to the benefits of the digital economy.
