Nairobi, Kenya – In a significant boost for the future of Kenyan athletics, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and Athletics Kenya (AK) have renewed their long-standing partnership through a new KSh 8 million sponsorship deal, aimed at strengthening the country’s athletic prowess on the national and global stage.

The agreement was unveiled on June 24 at KCB headquarters in Nairobi, with funding earmarked for two key events: the National Championships, which begin on June 25, and the World Championships trials set for early August. Each event will receive KSh 4 million.

AK President Lt Gen (Rtd) Jackson Tuwei lauded the partnership as “a coming together of two indigenous institutions that will make Kenyan athletics stronger,” underlining its strategic value in preparing athletes for international competition.

KCB Foundation Director Mendi Njonjo echoed the sentiment, expressing pride in the bank’s role in supporting Kenya’s storied running legacy. “KCB has an unwavering belief in the power of Kenyan athletics,” she said.

Beyond financial support, KCB will also equip athletes with financial literacy training—a forward-thinking move designed to help them sustainably manage their earnings and plan for life beyond the track.

This renewed alliance between corporate and sporting institutions not only underscores KCB’s long-term commitment to Kenyan sports but also reaffirms the critical role of private sector investment in nurturing the next generation of champions.
