The first-term Jubilee lawmaker, a former county speaker and veteran wildlife conservationist, passed away after a prolonged illness, triggering a future by-election in the constituency.

Isiolo South Member of Parliament Mohamed Tubi Bidu has died, the National Assembly confirmed on Wednesday. The first-term lawmaker passed away on the evening of Wednesday, November 12, 2025, while receiving treatment at The Nairobi Hospital after what was described by colleagues as a prolonged illness. His family confirmed his passing, which has since prompted an outpouring of condolences from across the political spectrum.
In a formal announcement to the House, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula described Mr. Tubi as a dedicated and remarkable public servant whose passing was a profound loss to the nation. “As we come to terms with this great loss, let us remember Hon. Tubi for his remarkable service and the positive impact he had on our nation,” Speaker Wetang'ula stated on Wednesday evening, EAT.
Elected in the August 2022 General Election on a Jubilee Party ticket, Mr. Tubi was a newcomer to the National Assembly but a veteran of public service. During his tenure in the 13th Parliament, he served on the Departmental Committee on Environment, Forestry and Mining, and the Public Petitions Committee, roles that aligned with his extensive background in wildlife management.
Before his election to Parliament, Mr. Tubi made a significant mark on Isiolo's devolved government, serving as the first-ever Speaker of the Isiolo County Assembly from 2013 to 2017. In this role, he was instrumental in establishing the legislative foundation for the new county government.
His career began decades earlier in wildlife conservation, a field where he dedicated nearly 20 years of his life. His work saw him serve in senior warden positions across Kenya's most renowned ecosystems. He was the Chief Game Warden at the Maasai Mara National Reserve for Narok County (2009-2012), Samburu Park for Samburu County Council (2012-2013), and Isiolo Parks for the Isiolo County Council (2004-2008). He held a Diploma in Wildlife Management from the College of African Wildlife Management in Tanzania and a Bachelor of Arts in Community Development from Gretsa University.
Leaders from across the country mourned Mr. Tubi as a principled and committed leader. President William Ruto eulogized him as a dedicated public servant and a passionate advocate for education who was committed to empowering his community. Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale remembered him as a “respected elder and a dedicated leader who served his constituents with commitment and humility.”
Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo praised his predecessor at the county assembly, describing him as a “principled and courageous leader, steadfast in his convictions and always guided by a deep desire to uplift the lives of his constituents.” This sentiment was echoed by fellow parliamentarians who highlighted his focus on community empowerment and environmental issues.
The passing of a sitting Member of Parliament automatically triggers a constitutional process for a by-election. The Speaker of the National Assembly is expected to formally declare the Isiolo South seat vacant and issue a writ to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), which will then schedule the special election. Mr. Tubi's death now shifts the political landscape in Isiolo County, opening up a competitive race to fill the leadership vacuum he leaves behind. Further details on the by-election timeline are expected to be announced in due course.
