Interior CS Murkomen dismisses allegations linking Cabinet members to drug trafficking as political witch-hunts, defying calls for resignations despite a leaked intelligence dossier.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has thrown a protective ring around the Kenya Kwanza Cabinet, dismissing swirling allegations that senior government officials are linked to international drug syndicates as "political witch-hunts."
The CS’s defense comes days after an explosive dossier by a foreign intelligence agency allegedly flagged two Cabinet Secretaries and a Governor for money laundering and narcotics trafficking. The report has triggered a public outcry, with the opposition demanding immediate resignations to pave the way for investigations.
"We cannot run a government on rumors and innuendo," Murkomen stated during a security briefing at Harambee House. "If there is evidence, let it be tabled. But we will not allow our officers to be lynched in the court of public opinion based on anonymous reports whose authors we do not know."
Murkomen’s stance has drawn sharp criticism from civil society groups, who argue the government is circling the wagons to protect its own.
The CS insisted that the war on drugs is "blind to rank or status," citing recent seizures at the Coast. However, for a public weary of scandals, the refusal to suspend the implicated officials looks less like due process and more like a cover-up.
