A 46-year-old Indiana mother, Britney Gard, has been reported missing following a suspicious house fire in Bainbridge, leaving her family and authorities deeply concerned about her whereabouts.
Britney Gard, a 46-year-old mother of two from Bainbridge, Indiana, was last seen on the night of Monday, September 30, 2025. Her disappearance was reported after a fire, deemed 'suspicious in nature' by investigators, engulfed her home on Tuesday, October 1, 2025, at approximately 2:40 AM EAT (7:40 PM local time on October 1).
Emergency services responded to a 911 call reporting smoke emanating from Gard's residence on County Road 600 North in Bainbridge. Upon extinguishing the blaze, firefighters conducted a thorough search of the damaged home but found no one inside. Attempts to contact Gard have since been unsuccessful, leading the Putnam County Sheriff's Office to classify her as a missing endangered person.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Office has been actively investigating Gard's disappearance around the clock. Fire investigators were dispatched to the scene to gather evidence, concluding that the fire's origin was suspicious. Their findings are being relayed to criminal investigators as the probe continues.
Search efforts have been extensive, involving the use of drones to scour the area on the night of the fire and the following day. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources was also contacted to assist in searching a pond located on Gard's property, but she was not located.
Gard's family has expressed profound distress and confusion over her disappearance. Her sister, Stephanie Bowen, told WRTV that it was uncharacteristic for Gard to miss her daughter's volleyball game, which she was scheduled to attend the morning after she was last seen. Gard's car and purse were found at her home, further deepening the mystery surrounding her absence.
The community has rallied to support the search, with Gard's family and volunteers distributing flyers with her picture and description across town, including at local gas stations and on pizza boxes. Bowen urged the public to remain vigilant, check security cameras, and report any information that could aid in locating Gard.
As of Wednesday, October 8, 2025, Britney Gard remains unlocated, and her family and friends have had no contact with her since the fire. Authorities have not publicly stated whether they suspect foul play in her disappearance.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Office continues to appeal to the public for assistance. Anyone with information regarding Britney Gard's whereabouts is urged to contact the Putnam County Emergency Operations Center and 911 Dispatch at 765-653-5115, extension 0. Anonymous tips can also be submitted via their tip line at 765-653-3211, extension 699.
The investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement utilising technology-based investigative tools to locate Gard. The family's Facebook page, 'Find Britney Gard,' continues to raise awareness. What remains to be seen is whether new evidence will emerge to shed light on this perplexing disappearance.
