More than a decade after the aircraft vanished in one of aviation's greatest mysteries, American firm Ocean Infinity will once again scour the southern Indian Ocean for the wreckage of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370.

In a move that breathes new life into a decade-long mystery, the Malaysian government has confirmed the search for the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 will resume on December 30, 2025. The announcement marks a pivotal moment for the families of the 239 people on board, who have waited more than 11 years for answers.
This renewed effort hinges on a 'no find, no fee' agreement with American marine robotics company Ocean Infinity. The high-stakes contract underscores the immense challenge of the task, while offering a sliver of hope. The firm stands to receive up to $70 million (approx. KES 9.1 billion) only if it successfully locates the aircraft's wreckage.
Ocean Infinity will deploy advanced autonomous underwater vehicles to search the seabed for 55 days. The operation will focus on a targeted area in the southern Indian Ocean, believed to be the most probable crash site. This is not the company's first attempt; a previous search in 2018 covered over 112,000 square kilometers but ended without success.
Flight MH370, a Boeing 777, disappeared from radar on March 8, 2014, while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. The subsequent search became the most expensive in aviation history, involving multiple nations and covering vast expanses of the ocean. Despite these efforts, only scattered pieces of debris, confirmed or believed to be from the plane, have washed up on African coastlines and Indian Ocean islands.
The disappearance of MH370 prompted a global overhaul of aviation safety protocols. Key changes since 2014 include:
While investigators have never definitively ruled out a deliberate act, the ultimate fate of the aircraft and the reasons for its deviation from its flight path remain unknown. For the families in Malaysia, China, and across the globe, the resumption of the search is more than a technical operation; it represents a renewed commitment to finding closure and finally understanding what happened to their loved ones.
