The ugly scenes, which saw fans clash and property vandalized, have cast a dark shadow over the league and prompted a swift response from the sport's governing body.

The violence brings the persistent issue of hooliganism back into sharp focus, threatening not only the safety of players and fans but also the financial stability and reputation of Kenyan football. Chaos Erupts After Equaliser

The match was halted in the 59th minute with the score locked at 1-1. Trouble began shortly after Nairobi United's Ovella Ochieng scored an equaliser, cancelling out an early goal from Gor Mahia's Ghanaian forward, Adukwaw Ebenezer. Following the goal, smoke bombs were thrown onto the pitch, and clashes broke out between rival supporters.

The situation escalated as the broadcast van for AzamTV, the league's official broadcast partner, was vandalized by unruly fans. The partnership with AzamTV is a crucial seven-year deal worth over $1 million (approx. KES 130 million) annually, and such incidents jeopardize the commercial viability of the league. The referee, citing safety concerns for players and officials, officially abandoned the match.

Federation Vows Swift Action

In the aftermath, FKF President Hussein Mohammed strongly condemned the violence and vowed to take firm action. "This behaviour will not be tolerated in Kenyan football," Mohammed emphasized in a statement. He confirmed that formal disciplinary processes have been initiated and the matter has been referred to the federation's judicial bodies.

The federation is under pressure to deliver more than just words. Kenyan football has a history of crowd trouble, which has led to significant financial penalties in the past.
