Kenyan health officials are investigating four unexplained deaths in Mombasa’s Migadini area and have urged citizens to stay calm. Samples from the deceased have been sent to national labs for analysis, and authorities note all victims had underlying health conditions.
Mombasa, Kenya – July 18, 2025
Kenyan health authorities have launched an investigation into a series of unexplained deaths in the Migadini area of Mombasa County, following the sudden demise of four individuals between July 9 and July 14. Officials have urged the public to remain calm as a multi-agency response works to determine the cause of the fatalities.
The Mombasa County Public Health Emergency Team has collected biological samples from all four deceased individuals and submitted them to the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) in Kilifi for detailed laboratory analysis.
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale confirmed that tests are ongoing. “All the samples have been sent to our KEMRI labs in Kilifi, and we will inform the country of the findings as soon as we have clarity,” Duale stated, emphasizing the need for public patience and trust in the process.
Director-General of Health Dr. Patrick Amoth noted that initial investigations suggest all four individuals had pre-existing medical conditions, and no similar cases have been reported elsewhere in the country. He added that there is currently no indication of an infectious outbreak, though authorities are treating the situation with utmost caution.
Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni assured residents that both rapid response and surveillance teamsare actively monitoring the situation in Migadini. “We are on the ground and closely tracking developments. Residents can expect timely updates as we progress,” she said.
The deaths have sparked concern within the coastal community, but health officials stress that precautionary measures are in place and that speculation should be avoided until conclusive test results are released.
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, public safety, and evidence-based communication as investigations continue.
