Pro-Wamatangi MCAs in Kiambu claim opponents are using gunshots and home invasions to intimidate the assembly into supporting the Governor’s impeachment.

The corridors of power in Kiambu have turned into a battleground. Amidst whispers of impeachment, MCAs are now reporting armed intimidation, home invasions, and "mafia-style" tactics designed to force a leadership change.
The plot to oust Governor Kimani Wamatangi has taken a dark and dangerous turn. A faction of Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) allied to the Governor has raised a red flag over what they call a coordinated campaign of terror. The allegations are chilling: unknown gunmen firing shots near the Governor’s residence, and a menacing visit to the home of Speaker Charles Thiong'o by a group of men led by a rogue MCA. The message is clear—support the impeachment or face the consequences.
Speaker Thiong'o's ordeal reads like a scene from a crime thriller. While he was away sitting for exams at the University of Nairobi, a black Ford Ranger pulled up to his gate. The occupants, described as "jittery," demanded to see him. "I don't handle official business at home," the Speaker said, visibly shaken. "Why invade my personal space where I live with my small children?" This breach of privacy is being interpreted as a direct threat to the Assembly's leadership, which is seen as the last line of defense for Wamatangi.
At the heart of this violence is cold political calculus. Majority Leader Godfrey Muceke claims that 80 out of 92 MCAs have signed a motion of confidence in the Governor, a number that makes impeachment impossible through legal means.
The escalation from political disagreement to physical intimidation marks a new low for Kiambu politics. If MCAs cannot sleep in their homes without fear of "unknown persons," the legislative function of the county is effectively held hostage. As the Assembly prepares to reopen, the air is thick with tension. This is no longer just about Wamatangi’s job; it is about the safety of those who were elected to check his power.
