The Senate CPAC orders a freeze on foreign travel for all Governors until March to prevent them from skipping audit sessions, prioritizing accountability over "benchmarking."

The jet-setting lifestyle of Kenya's county bosses has hit severe turbulence. In a drastic move to enforce accountability, the Senate has ordered a freeze on all foreign travel for Governors until March, declaring that "clearing your name is more important than benchmarking in Europe."
The directive by the Senate County Public Accounts Committee (CPAC) is set to send shockwaves through the Council of Governors. It follows a rising trend where Governors cite "official engagements abroad" as a reason to skip crucial grillings over audit queries. The Senate has now closed that escape route, effectively grounding the county chiefs.
CPAC Chairperson Moses Kajwang did not mince his words. "We have seen a pattern," he stated. "Every time a Governor is summoned to explain missing billions, they suddenly have a conference in Geneva or a trade fair in Dubai. It stops now."
The rationale for the ban is practical and legal:
The move is likely to spark a fierce legal and political battle. Governors have previously argued that the Senate cannot restrict their movement. However, the optics of flying first-class while hospitals lack medicine and audit queries remain unanswered are difficult to defend.
Senator Enock Wambua supported the move, asking, "Is the travel an emergency? Unless it is a matter of life and death, the audit comes first."
For now, the message is simple: If you want to see the world, first show us the receipts.
