Kenyan professional Greg Snow holds a commanding lead heading into the final day of the Betika Masters at Limuru Country Club, strengthening his position in the Sunshine Development Tour—East Africa Swing.
Muthaiga Golf Club’s Greg Snow established a formidable six-shot lead after the second round of the Betika Masters, held at the par-72 Limuru Country Club. His consistent performance places him at an impressive 11-under par for the tournament, positioning him as the clear favourite heading into the final round on Tuesday, 11th November 2025. The event is the eighth leg of the inaugural Sunshine Development Tour—East Africa Swing, a crucial series for regional professionals and elite amateurs.
Snow's dominance began with a strong opening round on Sunday, 9th November, where he carded a 6-under par 66 to take an early lead. His first day included birdies on the 3rd, 8th, 9th, 10th, 13th, and 14th holes, with a single dropped shot on the 7th. He continued his blistering form into the second round on Monday, 10th November, with a 5-under par score. This round was highlighted by birdies on holes 1, 2, 3, 6, 10, 11, and 18, with bogeys on the 4th and 13th. After his round, Snow expressed satisfaction with his game plan, stating, “I limited the mistakes and kept giving myself a lot of opportunities for birdies, and I'm taking advantage of that.”
While Snow has a comfortable cushion, several competitors remain in contention. Rwanda's Celestin Nsanzuwera moved into second place with a total of 5-under par after the second round. Njoroge Kibugu, a three-time winner on the tour, sits in third place at 4-under par. A three-way tie for fourth place at 3-under par includes Jastas Madoya, veteran Dismas Indiza, and Rizwan Charania. The cut was set at 7-over par, with Naomi Wafula being the only female golfer to advance to the final round.
The Betika Masters is a key event in the Sunshine Development Tour—East Africa Swing, which aims to provide a structured pathway for regional golfers to gain international experience. The tournament features a prize purse of KSh 2 million and offers valuable Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points, World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points, and Safari Tour Order of Merit points. These points are crucial for players aspiring to qualify for the prestigious 2026 Magical Kenya Open, a DP World Tour event. The 15-leg tour, which runs from June 2025 to February 2026, includes events across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda, demonstrating a significant investment in elevating professional golf in East Africa.
The tournament has attracted a competitive field of 88 professional and elite amateur golfers from several countries, including Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Malawi, India, and the United States, underscoring the growing international appeal of the East African tour. The strong multinational presence highlights the tour's success in creating a competitive platform for both local and international talent to develop. A notable moment in the second round came from amateur Mercy Nyanchama, who recorded a hole-in-one on the par-three 14th.
