Angry MTRH staff storm Eldoret Police Station demanding justice for a murdered colleague, accusing police of failing to protect health workers.

Chaos erupted at the Eldoret Central Police Station today as hundreds of staff from the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) stormed the precinct. Their demand was simple and loud: Justice for their slain colleague.
Dressed in white coats and chanting anti-police slogans, the medics accused security agencies of sleeping on the job. The protest was triggered by the brutal murder of a doctor, the latest victim in a wave of insecurity that has gripped Uasin Gishu County. "We save lives, but who is saving ours?" one nurse shouted, capturing the mood of a fraternity under siege.
The protestors blocked the entrance to the station, refusing to leave until the OCPD addressed them. They cited repeated reports of threats against health workers that have allegedly been ignored by the police. The slain medic, whose body was found in a thicket, is suspected to have been targeted by a gang terrorizing the affluent estates where many doctors reside.
The sight of doctors trading stethoscopes for placards is a damning indictment of the state of security in one of Kenya’s fastest-growing cities. If the people we trust to heal us are too scared to leave their homes, then Eldoret has a much bigger problem than just a murder case.
