The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced a marginal reduction in fuel prices, lowering the cost of super petrol and kerosene by Ksh 1 per litre while keeping diesel prices unchanged.
Nairobi, August 15, 2025 — The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced a marginal reduction in fuel prices, lowering the cost of super petrol and kerosene by Ksh 1 per litre while keeping diesel prices unchanged.
Petrol: Ksh 185.31 per litre
Diesel: Ksh 171.58 per litre
Kerosene: Ksh 155.58 per litre
The revised prices take effect from August 15, 2025.
EPRA explained that the adjustments reflect fluctuations in international landing costs:
Petrol’s landing cost declined slightly, enabling a price cut.
Diesel and kerosene landing costs rose, but Value Added Tax (VAT) and pricing stabilisation mechanisms kept retail prices steady.
The regulator also reminded the public that pump prices factor in a 16% VAT, as stipulated by Kenyan tax laws.
Although the change offers only marginal relief, it comes at a time when Kenyans are grappling with a high cost of living. Motorists and households relying on kerosene for cooking and lighting will see slight savings, but analysts warn that volatility in global oil markets could trigger fresh price swings in the coming months.
