Standard Chartered predicts a 2026 investment boom for Kenya as global capital shifts to emerging markets, driven by a weaker dollar and Gulf sovereign wealth.
The smart money is moving South. Standard Chartered’s Global Market Outlook for 2026 predicts a massive capital rotation into Emerging Markets, with Kenya poised to be a prime beneficiary as investors flee the "elevated valuations" of the West.
The bank’s Chief Investment Office has released a bullish forecast for Africa, citing a weakening US Dollar and easing global monetary policy as the perfect storm for a rally in Kenyan assets. "2026 is the year of diversification," says the report. "The tech-led boom in the US is cooling, and capital needs a new home."
Paul Njoki, Head of Wealth Management for Kenya and East Africa, highlighted the influx of "patient capital" from the Gulf. Unlike the hot money of the past, this new wave of investment is targeting infrastructure and technology—sectors where Kenya is a regional leader. "We are seeing sovereign wealth funds look at Nairobi not as a gamble, but as a growth engine," Njoki noted.
The report specifically identifies Kenyan sovereign bonds and the local equity market as undervalued gems. With the shilling stabilizing and inflation under control, the risk premium that scared off investors in 2024 is evaporating.
However, the bank warns that this is not a free lunch. "Selection is key," the outlook advises. Not all emerging markets will rise; only those with fiscal discipline and political stability will capture the inflows. Kenya’s challenge in 2026 will be to prove it is the safe harbor in a turbulent continent.
For the Kenyan investor, the message is clear: The world is looking at your backyard. Maybe you should too.
