The Competency-Based Assessment (CBE) system is teetering on the edge of a credibility crisis. Education experts warn that unless urgent reforms are implemented in the Senior School curriculum, the pioneering Grade 10 cohort risks being used as "guinea pigs" in a flawed experiment.
The issues range from a lack of specialized teachers for new pathways (like Sports Science and Performing Arts) to undefined assessment criteria. "We are building the plane while flying it," warned KUPPET Secretary General Akello Misori. The union is demanding a suspension of the new pathways until schools are properly equipped.
