Nairobi, Kenya — 2025-09-05 17:00 EAT. Former Migori Governor Okoth Obado has surrendered properties and cash worth Ksh235.6 million to the state under a plea bargain deal, ending a protracted corruption case over alleged embezzlement of county funds.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) confirmed Friday that the assets have been forfeited in exchange for the withdrawal of graft charges against Obado. The deal follows weeks of negotiations with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and his legal team. Status: concluded.
Obado, governor from 2013–2017, was accused of misappropriating Ksh73.4 million via 13 companies linked to family and associates. He was charged in 2021 with 25 counts, including money laundering and conspiracy to commit economic crimes. His four children were co-accused.
