Wilson Sossion blasts the Grade 10 CBC rollout, warning that ill-equipped teachers and rushed implementation are creating a "professional crisis."

Wilson Sossion has pulled the pin on a grenade, warning that Kenya’s education sector is walking into a "professional crisis" as the pioneer Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) cohort enters Grade 10.
The former KNUT Secretary General, known for his combative stance, argues that the Ministry of Education is masking deep systemic rot with impressive hiring statistics. While the government boasts of employing 100,000 new teachers, Sossion claims these numbers hide a terrifying truth: the teachers are largely unprepared for the specialized demands of Senior School.
Speaking to Capital FM, Sossion dismantled the government’s readiness narrative. "Kenyans get excited about numbers, but they don’t understand the shift in logic," he argued. His key points of contention include:
The stakes could not be higher. Grade 10 marks the beginning of career pathways—Arts & Sports, Social Sciences, and STEM. If the foundation is shaky, the entire superstructure of Kenya’s future workforce collapses. Sossion warns that without a "revolutionary reorientation" of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), we are merely warehousing children, not educating them.
"If we insist on this path without fixing the teacher quality, equity remains a slogan," he declared. His call for a national conference to overhaul the TSC is a challenge to the status quo. As parents send their children to Grade 10 this month, Sossion’s warning rings loudly: are we setting them up for success, or are they the guinea pigs of a rushed experiment?
