The celebrity couple has publicly refuted widespread, unsubstantiated social media claims of domestic abuse, sparking a national conversation on online rumour mills and the intense scrutiny faced by public figures in Kenya.

NAIROBI – Entertainer DJ Dibul and his fiancée, actress Dorea Chege, have become the focus of a viral social media storm following unsubstantiated allegations that Chege has been physically assaulting Dibul. The couple has individually dismissed the claims, using their platforms to counter the narrative and present a united front.
The controversy appears to have originated from anonymous submissions to blogger Edgar Obare's Instagram page, where users alleged disputes between the couple had escalated. The speculation intensified after a video circulated showing DJ Dibul performing at a recent event in Naivasha while wearing a face mask. Social media users began to speculate without evidence that the mask was intended to conceal injuries, fueling the assault narrative across platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter).
In response to the escalating rumours, DJ Dibul took to his Instagram Stories on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, to express his bewilderment. “Nowadays, you get on social media and find that you are the trending topic. Have you ever found yourself trending and you are clueless about it? Anyway, Padre is okay,” he wrote, dismissing the concerns for his well-being.
The entertainer also directly confronted a fan who suggested he needed to “stand up like a man.” The critic commented, “...nimekuadvice ukue mwanaume umekataa… umekaliwa sana,” which translates to “I have advised you to be a man but you’ve refused... you are being sat on.” DJ Dibul retorted, “Sijakaliwa kama wewe nugu hii,” meaning “I am not being sat on like you, you fool.”
Dorea Chege, a former actress on the popular show 'Maria', also addressed the allegations with a mix of direct denial and sarcasm. In one Instagram post, she shared a photo with the caption, “Lies cannot blur my shine, I'm too bright.” When a commenter directly asked why she had allegedly assaulted her partner, Chege replied, “Where did he say he was beaten up?” In a separate, seemingly pointed post, she asked her followers for recommendations for a taekwondo trainer, which many interpreted as a humorous jab at the absurdity of the claims. When a user commented that the training was “ndio upige Dibul” (so you can beat Dibul), Chege responded, “Anapigwa kwani amefungwa mikono?” (“Is he being beaten? Are his hands tied?”).
On Wednesday, November 19, 2025, coinciding with International Men's Day, Chege posted a heartfelt tribute to DJ Dibul, further countering the negative speculation. “This year, you've been blessed beyond measure and tested in equal strength, but I know God's got a greater plan unfolding,” she wrote. “I'm honoured to stand by your side, through every triumph and every trial.” The public show of solidarity was seen by many followers as a definitive rebuttal of the rumours.
The couple, who have been together since 2022 and welcomed their first child in March 2025, have a significant public profile, often sharing their life online. This is not the first time their relationship has faced public scrutiny; they have previously navigated online claims of infidelity, which they also denied. The latest incident highlights the challenges public figures in Kenya face, where unverified claims can rapidly gain traction and shape public perception, blurring the line between fan engagement and harmful gossip.
