Deputy Headteacher Convicted in Child Abuse Case
Busia, Kenya – October 3, 2025
A deputy headteacher in Malaba, Busia County, has been convicted of committing indecent acts with minors and promoting sexual offenses after exposing pupils to pornographic content — a case that has reignited nationwide concerns over child protection in schools.
The court found the educator guilty on multiple counts, including masturbation of minors, exposure to pornographic material, and engaging in sexually suggestive conversations during school hours.
According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), thirteen witnesses — mainly boys aged between 14 and 17 — testified, narrating harrowing experiences of repeated abuse inside classrooms and being shown explicit videos from the teacher’s phone.
The conviction marks a significant step in combating sexual abuse within learning institutions, where cases of exploitation by individuals in authority continue to surface despite existing child protection policies.
The convict is set to be sentenced on October 16, 2025, as the public and child rights groups call for stricter vetting, surveillance, and enforcement of professional ethics across Kenya’s education system.
