NTSA grounds Monna Comfort, Greenline, Naekana, and Uwezo Coast Shuttle following a spate of fatal accidents during the festive season.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has grounded the fleets of four major PSV operators in a ruthless crackdown following a bloody festive season. Monna Comfort Sacco, Greenline Company Limited, Naekana Sacco, and Uwezo Coast Shuttle have had their licenses suspended immediately for what the regulator terms "systemic safety failures."
The suspension follows a wave of fatal accidents between December 2025 and January 2026 that claimed dozens of Kenyan lives. The NTSA’s move sends a chilling message to the matatu sector: comply or perish. The four operators are accused of tampering with speed governors and failing to vet their drivers.
In a statement issued from Nairobi, the Authority revealed that compliance audits exposed rotting safety standards within these Saccos. "We cannot negotiate with the lives of Kenyans," the statement read. "These operators must clean their house before a single vehicle returns to the road."
The abrupt suspension is expected to cause travel chaos for thousands of passengers who rely on these popular Saccos. Commuters are advised to seek alternative means as police have been ordered to impound any vehicle from the suspended fleets found operating.
This crackdown is one of the most significant enforcement actions by the NTSA in recent years, signaling a shift from reactive statements to punitive action.
