Home golfer Kailesh Chauhan overcame a field of nearly 200 players and challenging coastal heat to clinch the overall title in the second KPA Circuit tournament at Nyali Golf and Country Club.
MOMBASA – In a display of precision and resilience, local golfer Kailesh Chauhan carded a brilliant 40 stableford points to win the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Circuit tournament this weekend. Playing on his home course, the handicap 20 golfer bested a field of 199 competitors at the Nyali Golf and Country Club.
The victory is a significant achievement for Chauhan, underscoring the fierce competition and growing talent pool in the coastal golf scene. The KPA-sponsored tournament is a key event for the region's golfers, and a win here provides not just bragging rights but a major boost to a player's profile in the national amateur rankings.
"I am delighted to be declared the winner of this prestigious tournament," Chauhan noted after his win, acknowledging the tough conditions. "The course was challenging, but all went on well."
While Chauhan secured the top prize, the battle for other positions was intense. Charles Kariuki claimed the Gross winner title with a score of 7 over par 78. In the men's category, Andrew Miheso, also a handicap 20 player, emerged victorious with 39 points.
The race for the runner-up spot was particularly close, resulting in a tie that had to be decided on a countback. The final results were:
The performance of handicap 16 golfer Kibet Kikwai earned him the runner-up position over handicap 14 Dinesh Sasan after both returned scores of 37 points. In the ladies' category, Millicent Palo delivered a commanding performance to win with 39 points.
Events like the KPA Circuit are vital for the local sporting economy, attracting players from various clubs and fostering community engagement. They provide a platform for both seasoned veterans and aspiring amateurs to test their skills under professional tournament conditions.
With this victory, all eyes will be on Kailesh Chauhan to see if he can maintain this momentum in upcoming fixtures on the national golf calendar. His cool-headed performance under pressure suggests a promising future for the Nyali-based player.
