Hashtags like #OccupyUntilVictory are trending as young activists, claiming the initial protests were infiltrated, vow to regroup and continue their fight for justice and accountability.
Nairobi, Kenya – July 9, 2025
Kenya’s digital landscape has reignited with revolutionary energy as young activists rally around viral protest hashtagsincluding #TuesdayIsTuesday, #OccupyUntilVictory, and #SabaSaba2025, signaling the rise of a new wave of national demonstrations.
In the aftermath of the deadly Saba Saba Day protests, social media platforms—particularly X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok—have become command centers for a growing movement that claims it was deliberately infiltrated and sabotaged by state operatives during its initial push.
“This is not over. The system blinked first,” reads one widely-shared post.
“Real patriots are waiting for tomorrow.”
The message is clear: Kenya’s Gen-Z–led resistance is far from defeated.
Posts with slogans like “Today we are kicking off a revolution” and “Freedom is claimed, not handed down” have been shared tens of thousands of times, often accompanied by powerful visuals of protest art, injuries from past confrontations, and drone footage of previous marches.
What sets this latest wave apart is its hyper-digital organization. Activists are now sharing crowd-sourced protest maps, including real-time updates on police roadblocks, tear gas zones, and safe gathering points—a tactical evolution that blends civic defiance with cutting-edge tech.
Despite this, the National Police Service (NPS) has issued a stern warning, reaffirming that access to certain government zones remains prohibited under the Protected Areas Act. NPS emphasized that any illegal gatherings will be dispersed, and participants could face criminal prosecution.
Yet, the movement seems undeterred. A new slogan circulating among protest channels reads:
“Let the system prepare its warnings—we’re preparing our legacy.”
As the sun sets on the aftermath of Saba Saba, the country is bracing for another Tuesday—and potentially, a new chapter in Kenya’s democratic struggle.
