Nairobi, Kenya — September 25, 2025
A recent TIFA survey shows that support for the Ruto–Odinga “broad-based government” (BBG) is strongest in North-Eastern Kenya, where 61 % of respondents expressed backing for the arrangement.
According to the survey (conducted 23 August – 3 September 2025), Northern Kenya (which includes North-Eastern counties) recorded the highest regional support for the BBG at 61 %
The Central Rift Valley region followed with around 45 % support, while Mt. Kenya and Lower Eastern had the lowest, with just 11 % and 17 % respectively.
In North-Eastern, while 61 % support the BBG, 35 % oppose it, and 6 % are undecided.
The high backing in North-Eastern is politically significant because the region has often felt marginalized in development allocations, security, and national integration.
Strong support here may reflect public optimism that the BBG offers better inclusion, resource sharing, and political attention to historically underserved areas.
For Ruto and his coalition, this could be leveraged to consolidate legitimacy in regions outside their traditional base, projecting the BBG as a pan-Kenya project.
On the flip side, in regions with low support (like Mt. Kenya), the BBG may face heightened resistance, making political outreach and messaging more challenging.
