As the LSK elections approach, the fraternity seeks a fearless leader with "balls of steel" to safeguard the rule of law against executive overreach, surpassing mere ceremonial duties.

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) is not a country club for well-robed gentlemen to sip whisky and quote Latin. It is the last line of defence between the rule of law and executive impunity. As the February 19 elections loom, the legal fraternity—and indeed the nation—is searching for a leader with "balls of steel" to succeed the formidable Faith Mony Odhiambo.
This week, the campaign trail descended on Machakos for the Lower Eastern Advocate Forum’s dinner, a night that revealed both the theatrical and the tactical sides of the contenders. While candidates like the suave Charles Kanjama and the erudite Peter Wanyama showcased their dancing skills to Kamba bangers, the electorate was looking for something heavier than rhythm: they were looking for spine.
The race has narrowed down to a clash of ideologies and personalities:
Why does this matter to the common mwananchi in Githurai or Kondele? Because when the police bludgeon protesters, or when Parliament passes unconstitutional finance bills, it is the LSK President who leads the charge to the courts. We need a leader who can stare down the Attorney General without blinking, not one who seeks state commendations.
The "Mura Mura" case of 2017 taught us that bad laws are only overturned by brave lawyers. As the candidates prostrate themselves for votes, they must remember: we are not electing a dancer-in-chief. We are electing a defender of the Constitution. The next LSK President must be ready to be teargassed, not toasted.
