Denmark dismisses US accusations of a secret Chinese military base in Greenland as President Trump renews threats to "secure" the island, escalating tensions in the Arctic.

The diplomatic temperature in the Arctic has hit freezing point. Denmark has formally rejected explosive allegations by the Trump administration that China is secretly constructing a dual-use military facility in Greenland. The denial comes amidst renewed threats by President Trump to "buy or secure" the strategic island to prevent Chinese encroachment.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen termed the US claims "baseless and dangerous," insisting that Chinese investments in Greenland are purely civilian mining projects for rare earth minerals. "Greenland is not for sale, and it is not a battlefield," Rasmussen said in Copenhagen. "We are NATO allies. We expect to be treated with respect, not suspicion."
The row was triggered by a leaked Pentagon memo suggesting that a Chinese mining consortium in Kvanefjeld was building a deep-water port capable of docking nuclear submarines. President Trump, doubling down on his 2019 ambition, tweeted: "If Denmark can't protect our Arctic flank from China, we will do it for them. Greenland needs American security!"
As the superpowers jostle for position on the melting ice, the Arctic is fast becoming the next frontier of global conflict.
