Denmark firmly rejects US attempts to purchase Greenland, offering military cooperation instead of territorial cession in a sharp diplomatic rebuttal.

The message from Copenhagen to Washington is polite but piercingly clear: Greenland is a partner, not a purchase. Following a tense meeting with US officials, Denmark’s Foreign Minister has publicly rebuked President Trump’s renewed interest in buying the Arctic island, deepening a diplomatic rift.
"We are not a real estate agency," Lars Løkke Rasmussen told the BBC. "Greenland belongs to Greenlanders. The days of buying territories and people are over." The comment was a direct response to the White House’s transactional approach to the strategic territory.
The US sees Greenland as a vital buffer against Russian expansion in the Arctic. However, the Danish refusal to entertain a sale has frustrated the Trump administration, which views the island as essential "national security infrastructure."
