Nigeria’s powerful APC governors demand an end to backroom deals, pushing for digital transparency to save the ruling party from implosion before 2027.

The power brokers of Nigeria’s ruling party have drawn a line in the sand. The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), led by Imo State’s Hope Uzodimma, has issued a stern demand for "absolute transparency" as the All Progressives Congress (APC) gears up for its high-stakes congresses and national convention.
Meeting in Abuja, the governors endorsed the new party timetable but attached a caveat: the days of imposition and midnight lists are over. They are backing a new e-registration drive, insisting that the party’s register must be digital, verifiable, and free of ghost members. "We must build trust or we will lose the street," Uzodimma warned.
This push for transparency is not altruistic; it is a survival strategy. With the 2027 elections looming, the APC knows it cannot afford a fractured house. The governors are moving to wrestle control of the party machinery from the Abuja cabal, using "transparency" as the weapon to dismantle the old patronage networks.
As the congresses approach, the tension is palpable. The governors have spoken. Now, the party leadership must deliver—or face a revolt from the very men who fund the operation.
