The British-Nigerian heavyweight is in stable condition after a fatal collision on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway claimed the lives of his strength coach and trainer.

Anthony Joshua, the British-Nigerian heavyweight boxing icon, is recovering in hospital today after surviving a fatal car crash in Nigeria that tragically claimed the lives of two integral members of his inner circle.
The collision on the bustling Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has plunged the global sporting community into mourning, abruptly halting the fighter's camp and serving as a grim reminder of the perils facing motorists on major African transport corridors.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:00 AM EAT on Monday. According to Lanre Ogunlowo, the Ogun State Police Commissioner, the Lexus SUV carrying the former world champion collided violently with a stationary vehicle.
While the mechanics of the crash are still under investigation, the impact was devastating. Joshua, who was seated in the rear of the vehicle, sustained minor injuries. He was immediately rushed to an undisclosed hospital where medical teams have confirmed he is in a stable condition.
"The vehicle conveying Mr. Joshua was involved in the accident under circumstances that are currently being investigated," the Ogun police command stated. "Joshua is receiving medical attention with another injured person."
The crash has exacted a heavy toll on Joshua’s close-knit team. Confirmed dead at the scene were Sina Ghami and Kevin ‘Lateef’ Ayodele, two men described as the backbone of Joshua's training camp.
A spokesman for Joshua expressed the camp's profound grief, noting, "It is with the deepest and most profound sadness that we confirm the death of Sina Ghami and Kevin ‘Lateef’ Ayodele. Both were close friends and integral members of Anthony’s team."
Matchroom Boxing chairman Eddie Hearn, who has guided Joshua’s career from the start, paid tribute to the fallen aides. "With the heaviest of hearts. Two great men," Hearn said. "Rest in eternal peace Sina and Latz. My thoughts and deepest prayers are with everyone."
The bodies of the deceased have been moved to the Livewell Hospital morgue in Sagamu. Police authorities have assured the public that a rigorous inquiry is underway to determine why a stationary vehicle was left on such a high-speed artery—a hazard all too familiar to Kenyan drivers who navigate similar risks on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
"We respectfully ask that space and privacy be given to the families at this time while they process this truly shocking and devastating news," Joshua’s team added. As the boxing world rallies around the former champion, the focus now shifts from the ring to the recovery of a man who has lost much more than a fight.
