Nairobi, Kenya — September 25, 2025
The Nanyuki Sports Club will host Kenya’s newest amateur golf showcase starting tomorrow: the first Nanyuki Open, added to the NCBA Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) circuit. The field includes the country’s top amateurs vying for ranking points and prestige.
The Nanyuki Open marks the debut of a new event in the KAGC schedule, giving golfers another venue to compete and accumulate ranking points.
Elvis Muigua, recent winner of both the Malindi Open-Vasco Da Gama Cup and Diani Beach Masters, arrives as the clear frontrunner.
Challengers include John Lejirma (nicknamed “Kenya One”) and Michael Karanga, a seasoned contender and Muigua’s mentor.
Isaac Makhoha, fresh from his triumph at the Railway Invitational, is also in the mix.
Muigua acknowledged that this will be his first time playing at Nanyuki, and plans to do a “recce round” prior to full competition.
Introducing a new tournament in Nanyuki helps broaden the geographic footprint of amateur golf in Kenya, encouraging talent outside traditional strongholds.
For players, it means more opportunities to earn ranking points, build competitive experience, and attract sponsorship.
For Nanyuki Sports Club and the region, it’s a chance to gain visibility, host national events, and develop golf infrastructure.
As part of KAGC, the Open strengthens the national amateur golf ecosystem—making the circuit more vibrant, competitive, and accessible.
The Nanyuki course is known for subtle breaks and deceptive undulations, demanding precision and mental composure.
Weather variables such as morning mist and crosswinds could play a factor, especially in the high-altitude locale.
Watch how the championship contenders adapt to a course many are playing for the first time.
Key matchups likely: Muigua vs. Lejirma; Makhoha vs. Karanga.
