Political activist Kasmuel McOure will partner with the government to connect young Kenyans to billions in empowerment funds, aiming to boost uptake of key state initiatives.

In a significant move bridging activism and state policy, political activist Kasmuel McOure is partnering with the Ministry of Cooperatives to drive youth economic empowerment. The collaboration, announced Thursday, aims to link young Kenyans directly with government opportunities like the Hustler Fund and the multi-billion shilling NYOTA programme.
This partnership places a prominent youth advocate at the heart of the state's machinery for job creation. The core mission is to ensure that information about and access to crucial enterprise support reaches the intended demographic, a challenge that has often hampered similar well-intentioned projects. Cooperatives Principal Secretary Susan Mang'eni emphasized the goal is to widen the reach and impact of the State Department for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
The collaboration will be channeled through the Broad-Based Youth Front, an initiative recently launched by McOure to champion youth interests within the current administration. "Our focus is on connecting more young people to timely information, enterprise support, and the tools available within the State Department for MSMEs," McOure stated. McOure, who rose to national prominence during the 2024 anti-government protests, has positioned his new front as a direct lobbying force. This partnership with the ministry marks a strategic shift from street-level activism to policy-level influence. PS Mang'eni noted the government looks forward to the collaboration "to ensure that more young people can access timely information, opportunities, and tools that support their economic empowerment."
The success of this initiative will hinge on its ability to translate high-level partnership into tangible results on the ground. For countless young Kenyans struggling with unemployment, this collaboration represents a renewed, and perhaps more direct, pathway to putting food on the table and building a secure future.
