Patrice Motsepe silences doubt over hosting rights, putting the ball firmly in the court of Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania to deliver the infrastructure.
The rumors have been swatted away. Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe has issued a categorical vote of confidence in the East Africa "Pamoja Bid," confirming that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will proceed as planned in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
Speaking from Dar es Salaam, Motsepe dismissed international media reports suggesting a postponement or relocation as "totally unfounded." However, his support comes with a heavy caveat: the infrastructure must be ready.
With less than 16 months to the kickoff, the region is turning into a vast construction site. The pressure is immense to avoid the embarrassment of a last-minute strip-down.
Motsepe’s vision is clear: AFCON is a tool for economic and infrastructural development. "We have to believe in ourselves as Africans," he declared. For the East African Community, 2027 is not just about football matches; it is a diplomatic and economic test.
The deadline is set. The funding is there. Now, the region must prove that it can translate plans into concrete.
